The bus ride went well, the tours were great, and the kids all enjoyed their time away from school. Thursday was a wonderful day for a field trip–and I’m glad we all had the experience.
The VA capital building (turns out–this is not the entrance).
Inside the rotunda of the Capital–this is the only statue in America that George Washington actually posed for. The piece is exactly to scale, and was created prior to his presidency.
Jamestown settlement–inside the fort where the first years were spent. Each building was shared, except for the homes. This is the storage building, for food and supplies. If a colonist kept food in their home–the could face punishment by death!
Rolling barrels around was a lot easier than carrying heavy boxes.
The Susan B. Constant, the biggest of the 3 ships that arrived in 1607. Captain Christopher Newport commanded them; he only had 1 arm at the time. A previous trip at sea resulted in a battle with the Spanish, and he lost one of his arms.
