{November 6}: Waking up to a beautiful fall day, Kevin and I wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and share some quality time together. We decided to take Skylar down to Harpers Ferry and walk around until I couldn’t walk anymore!

The trees were still full of color, and the leaves that had fallen were equally as lovely, dusting the old cobble streets and rock stairs. As we went up and down, round and round, down by the river, and back up again, we talked and daydreamed about our baby.

I was well rested and full of energy, so we spent a few hours on foot, taking in the scenery and the moments.

For lunch, I insisted on a spicy tortilla soup at the little cafe. We ate, fueled up on some water, and then did the rounds all over again! The little one was bouncing along happily, kicking in every once in a while to remind me to pause and breathe in the healthy pregnancy and the amazing life that was big and ohsoclose to joining us!

Once home, Kevin talked me into taking a quick nap–something I usually don’t like. However, I caught some extra rest and woke up to an aroma-filled house, as he prepared a yummy dinner.

Well fed, relaxed and happy, I sat in front of the fire to read after our meal. Around 8 or so that evening, I began to feel a slight tightening in my belly! Then, about an hour passed…I felt it again!

Excitedly, I re-read a few “early labor” sections of my favorite birth books and was pretty sure I was feeling just that.

The thoughts that ran through my head came straight from my heart–I was so overcome with the idea of meeting my baby soon that I didn’t think I would be able to fall asleep.

Well, that was not true–I was out by 11:00.

Sleeping well for most of the night, I awoke around 4am to stronger contractions and began to time the changes that were happening.  Kevin made an early breakfast, we called the midwives, double-checked the “last minute” list, petted the dog, and walked out the door.  Holding my belly with one arm, my husband’s hand with the other, I looked back at the house, thinking ‘when I return, I’ll be holding our child’!

Was that really a whole week ago already?
